Tao Te Ching: Habit Change begins with Awareness
Lao Tzu
After a long and full life, Lao Tzu grew tired of civilization and wandered west, towards the farthest border of China’s vast empire. At the edge of the wilderness, at the last outpost of the civilized world, a guard recognized him and pleaded with him to leave his wisdom behind.
Lao Tzu agreed, and dictated the famous Tao Te Ching. It’s not hypnosis, and it’s not habit change exactly, but this ancient book of 81 short meditations remains a blue print for solving modern-day problems and living a happy and contented life. It advocates simplicity of mind, simplicity of action, and reminds us that wisdom comes from not-knowing.
If you haven’t read it, you should. Mindfulness is a huge first step towards creating the habit change that you want. Check out the whole Tao Te Ching online here.

Habit Change in the Tao: Chapter 9
Fill your bowl to the brim
and it will spill.
Keep sharpening your knife
and it will blunt.
Chase after money and security
and your heart will never unclench.
Care about people’s approval
and you will be their prisoner.
Do your work, then step back.
The only path to serenity.
-Lao Tzu
